Reported Cases

A "reported" case is one deemed by the court to involve a significant or novel issue of law. In these cases, the court orders publication so that there is an appropriate record that can be relied on by subsequent courts that might encounter the same issue. An "unpublished case" is one that has been published by a reporting service but has not been deemed by the court to be of such significance to order it to be published.
